Harriet Tubman is an American Hero! She rescued approximately 70 people from slavery and was a passionate and vocal activist for human rights. She is also honored in the Military Women's Memorial for her role as a Union scout and spy during the Civil War. Tubman was the first woman to lead an armed expedition; she guided the raid at Combahee Ferry in South Carolina which liberated more than 700 enslaved people.
The Military Women's Memorial honors and tells the stories of women, past and present, who serve our nation.
